Christmas Card Exchange

This year at Holland, we are doing a christmas card exchange. Every class got a bag filled with the names of other people in the school. Each student had to pick a name and make a christmas card for that person. The cards will be delivered near Christmas day. I think it is a great idea because most people in the school will be happy to get a christmas card from someone else. I think most people are very anxious to be receiving it!

Recycled Creations

This week we started making recycled creations in class. We had to use materials from old pants, old bed covers, or old shoes. We sewed pieces of these materials together to make bags pillows, pencil cases, etc. Most people had trouble sewing so it was really funny. We had a great afternoon.

Weather

This week we started a new topic in science : weather. We started with 6 activities and everyone had the chance to do all of them because we rotated. Each activity is educational and all had something to do with weather: tornadoes, hurricanes, vortex, reading on the topic, Smartboard activities and computer websites. Except for one, in which we learned how to use the proscope. This new topic is interesting and educational for all the class. Everyone learned at least one thing.

Forces Field Trip

Yesterday, we went to the cegep Garneau for a demonstration on forces. We learned about gravity, static electricity, weight/scales, air pressure and physical strength etc... He did some cool smaller demonstraions, too. One of the coolest ones was when he used a smoke machine and put the smoke into a drumlike container. He tapped the bottom and rings of smoke came out of the top. A funny thing he did was when he put leaf blower by his mouth and his cheeks inflated. Also with a big water container, he used a lighter and put it inside, and it went across the room!
It was a fun field trip!
