December in class 6B
This month we did alot of things like, going swimming... Swimming was very fun, we did alot of things in the pool. We started playing tag, when we were jumping off the diving board we needed to catch the ball that other people would throw to us. It was really fun. We also did a soup. Everyone broth some vegetables and we did a giant soup. It was really delicious. We had our unit 2 retest for the ones who got under 90 percent. We learned about robots in class and we needed to do a robotics synthesis, alot of people got 4.5 or 5 on this we were very good. Talking of robots, in class a bunch of people started to build robots. Now in class we have a game called ipets and with that we can go do robotics, old work, or do alot more things like that. We've learned how to program them and do alot more. We also had to do a human development project... It was very fun, we had the time and chance to look back in our baby pictures, on how we were tall when we were born etc. We had a p-j party, it was very fun everyone came at school in their p-J's and brought their pillows. We did a pillow fight and we also watched a bit of avatar. We also had a reading project, and a Christmas show (the music club sang and did all sorts of things). We also have the sing along in the gym, everyone will be singing a song and at the end we will all sing together. And also it has been 2 days, the class 6b have started to go downstairs to sing with other classes. Its very fun. 6b is the best class of the whole school!!!!

Antique Toy Car

This object belonged to my Dad. He used to play with it when he was younger.

This toy car is made out of a sort of metal. I didn't weigh it but it is really heavy, for a toy car.

My dad told me that this toy car first belonged to
my uncle, who gave it to my dad. And now it is my toy car and I will keep it as long as possible. If I still have it I will probably give it to my kid. As you can see the toy cars really changed from the time of 1967.

It was made in 1988. It is 22 years old. My grandfather found it on the ground at the age of 49 years old. The complete left one comes from Nova Scotia. It was made in 1867. The second one to the left comes from Prince Edward Island. It was made in 1873. The one in thye middle comes from Quebec. It was also made in 1867. This crown is made in 1998 .
It 12 year old .
It is made in Bangladesh;it is real gold and Crystal .
The first place that it it was worn was in marriage in 1998 .
It belonged to my mom

Antique Hammer

My antique is an old hammer that was patented Sept. 29 in the year 1898 . It is made of wood and very rusty iron and it weighs about 560 grams. It is written The Bridge Port Hower on one side and can be used as a hammer, a crowbar and a chisel.

It is in very good shape except for a piece of wood that is chipped off (broken). It could still be used but it would be uncomfortable and it would slip out of your hand more easily than the modern ones.

Old Kodak Camera

My antique is a very old Kodak camera. Half of my camera was made in 1910. The other half was made 3 years later which means it was made in 1913. This Kodak camera was made in United States. It is 100 years old. This Kodak camera was given to my father after his father's death. It was one of the first camera my grandfather had in his life. We take real care of it. It is very precious to my fathers eyes.

My old Record and book

This is a record. The record reads a story and you can follow by using a book that is attached with it. My mom had it for about 40 years but it was made in 1967. The book was made in France by the Walt Disney Productions and the record was made in Canada. Together, the hole thing weights 43.3 g. The person that reads the story is a woman and her name is Rosine Young. The story is called The Little Red Ridding Hood but is't in french. A material they used to make the record is vinnel and for the book paper and cartboard. For the drawings I think they used paint. This was a little paragraph on my antique.

My antique ruler

My antique is made of wood. Its a ruler for construction.ex; like for building houses and some school too.My antique is about 90 years old.I got it from my grandpa because my grandpa was in the construction when he was a young adult. He has more antiques like that. The size is 19.2.Also it opens funny.

Antique camera

Hi today we shared our antique objects .My antique object was an old camera it was made in 1920 .My great grandfather had the camera .My antique camera is not like the cameras we see today .To take a picture you need to open and stretch it out and then you need to put it down to your chest or else you wont see well then you look down your camera in the little loop. every one brought interesting obejects. the antique roadshow was really fun. bye bye.

Antique hooks

My antiques that I will talk about are hooks. These hooks were first given to my grand-father when he was about 5 years old and then to my dad. Today my dad has them downstairs in are basement and does not use them, but when my dad was 5 years old he used to have five, 1 for each member of his family. These hooks are about 70 years old. I calculated the year it was made and it was made in around 1940. One hook weighs 6.30 grams. It's length is 9 cm and it's width is 6 cm. They are all rusty and kind of brown. They are made of iron and there is one that is broken in the back and I can see the inside of it, it's quite cool. It's orange and has holes, can see two holes. I think it's broken because of the screws that went in and out. So these are my two antiques!

The Oulou

My object is a Oulou,

my class and i was all showing our objects and telling what it was to be used for.

mine was to be used too cut the meat; my great grand-father lived in Nunavut. He lived in a Igloo and had no food so he made tools to go and hunt for food; the food was animals well their only food they can eat. he eats all of those(whales, fish, caribou, seals and etc..). They weren't vegetarian as you can see.

The three steps

(1) you have to go and hunt food

(2) you finally take the OuLoU and cut off the fur

(3) you eat

what you can eat?

i am going to tell what you eat in a caribou,

first of all you can eat the meat and the most interesting thing is that you can eat inside the bone.

why? well inside the bone there is this kind of pink meat, you have to eat it with soya sauce or it wont taste good. Ok now i am going tell what you can eat in the fish.

you can eat the eyes, meat and some people eats the tail and i am not sure but also the head.(discusting ehh!). Now about the whale.

some people makes house out of the bones and igloo's. as you know the whale is very big so thats means that there is a lot of meat but it is very hard to get one by hunting.(its big and heavy and you cant put on your boat it will sink. so the inuit decided not to take the whole thing so take peice of it each day/time.

thanks! :) Shane Naulaq*

old canadiens shirt

This is an old canadiens shirt. It is 20 years old. I think it was made in about 1980. My brother was the first one to have this shirt then then it was my other brother and then it was me. I used it when I started to learn how to skate. It was used to keep me warm but I would still put a coat under. The Canadiens still use the same logo as the one on my shirt. The logo was created in 1917 by Tex Rickard owner of the madison sqaure garden.
In our class, every person presented a antique object. We called it our antique road show. I presented money, five bills. This ia a picture of the money I brought. There are four bills, a 1 dollard, a two dollard, a five dollard and a ten dollard. that are made in 1967. And the other one is a one dollard and it is made in Ottawa Jan.2nd in 1937. Those bills are the first bills that are made in english and in french. After I presented two coins. They are olympic coins, one is a 5 dollard and the other one is a 10 dollard. On these coins the Olympic logo is different from now.The five dollard coin is silver and the ten dollard coin is gold. The 10 dollard coin weights 750 grains. It is twise as heavy as the 5 dollard, it weights 375 grains. Behind the coins, Queen Elizabeth is on it. On both coins, there is XXl witten on them, it meens 21st olympic games. Before, they said olypiad instead of olympic. These coins are 37 years old.

This antique is a old wash board. It is about 105 years old. It was first at my great grabdmother and was pass by genaration and genaration to my mother. My object is made out of wood and glass. It was made by a Canadien Woodwear. It can by still use but I think it will break easily because it is old.
This is how this wash board works:
1. You put your close in hot water.
2. You rub your close on the glass.
3. When the stain is gone you put it again in hot water and it is finish.
I think now it is really more technology. Now you put in the machine for 30 minutes and it is done, in the old time you needed to do it by yourself. Now it polutes alot more.

Old Canadian 1 and 2 Dollar Bills

The bills were made in January 2 1936 in Ottawa. On the bills there is a face of a man and his name is George VI(six). George became king of England in 1936 that's why in 1937 he was on the bills. George died in 1952 so since then Queen Elizabeth is on the bills. The 1 and 2 dollar bills were the banks first bills with English and French writing on it for example: Bank Of Canada and Banque Du Canada.

Antique Skates

Here is an image of an olden day NHL skate. This powerful shoe is 65 years of age. It has been used on many ice rinks. Sadly not on NHL rinks. Acompnay named '55 Pro-Styled Daoust Canada created it. Like many skates the blade is rusty. For at least 20 years, nobody has ever reused them. As if today, all skates blades are made out of a metal not as heavy. Ex. titanium and aluminium. In the olden days, their best metal was heavy iron. As you can see, the one on this page is certainly made out of iron. In that case, there were lots of chances rust would be seen. If you want to have a foot that's comfortable while gliding on the shiny white ice, let me tell you this is not the skate you'd want to buy. On the bottom of the skate rubber is attached. If it had been older, the rubber would have been replaced by leather. Weird! To finish with, all the texture NHL skate has isn't thick. As an NHL player, my fear of getting hurt would've been high. I sadly didn't get the date they were created in but I learned a lot. Hope you enjoyed getting to know about an old NHL skate. They have changed over time!

Antique Candle Holder and Snuffer

This is an Antique of 125 years old. It was made in 1885. It came from England and is made from iron. My great mamie got it from her log cabin owners from England who sold the ol' log cabbie like she used to call it. The owners left it there before returning to England so my mamie still has it and gave it to my mom who gave it to me.

Antique Opera Binoculars

My antique is a pair of Opera binoculars; they belonged to my great great grandfather.

His name is Lois Philippe de Varennes; he was born in the year 1870. He got married on July 11 in 1905; he was 35 years old. After he got married he stade together with his wife for 20 years

then he died. Lois P. died at the age of 55 in the year of 1925.

The binoculars are about 150 years old. I think that I am the 4th generation to get the binoculars, and those are also the 4th generation made, and that's my antique!

After lunch we walked to the parliament; it was very fun and there was alot of security. We had to pass through a metal detector. Then we went into the red room and the blue room. They found out that Terry fox was not only a runner, He was a hero to most people all over canada. We found that out because miss made us watch a movie. So we should care and reaspect what Terry did.

Dairy Of a Wimpy Kid The Last Straw

Greg Heffley a normal boy with crazy ideas. He and his best friend Rowley Jeffreson made a time capsule and put lots of neat stuff like vidieo games money and lots of other cool stuff. Or on valentines day he sent cards to everyone saying what he really thinks about them like... Dear James you smell. This book made me laugh just like the other books of this serie because Greg uses sarcasum. This book is probably the one in the serie with the most suspense because Greg's father wants to send him to a military academy and he dosent change his mind till the very last page.

Qs: What kind of school does Greg go to? ex. primary school, collage...

The Fugitive Factor

At first when I walked by this book in the library it didn't interest me. After, I heard that Gordon Korman wrote good books, and I saw that this book was written by him, I took it to try it out.

Finally the book was great! It was full of action and suspense with a little humour. When I was reading this book I really felt like if I was in the action of the book. From now on I will look forward to reading the other books of this series. It was great!

Question to class: Could you imagine your parents are in prison, but they're innocent, and you're trying to find evidence that they are? Also all the country is after you and a mysterious killer wants you dead, but you don't know why. How would you feel?

diary of a wimpy kid

characters: Greg is the main character in the book. I like him because his a sarcasim guy that whats makes him funny. His best friend is Rowley jefferson. Greg is not at all popular in his school he trys to be popular but always sink. Like if his in a contest he'll compare himself to the other and he doesn't win.
Rodrick older brother of greg. He's like rowley No BRAIN.
Summary: it's a boy named Greg that trys to be perfect guy.
Question: Would you like to live his life?

diary of a wipy kid

What I like about this book is the features ,example the writing is not perfect just normal. If the book did not have those little comics the story would be not as much funny.

In every diary of a wimpy kid there is a symbol the 1 book is the cheese (cheese touch) inthe 2 book it is rodrick it goes well with the tittle Rodrick rules book 3 greg in his moms bathrobe book 4 a hand made of sand.

Jeff kinney puts some action people really do example book 3 when your cold and tierd you put your bathrobe, or when your dad is not in a nice mod and after he wakes you up then you fall asleep again and he is angry ... because personaly I fall asleep after my dad wakes me up.

Princess In The Spotlight

Being a teenager is hard aspecially when you're a princess teen. You have to deal with all the boyfriend/girlfriend stuff, drugs, being cool, (ect...)

This book is about a girl called Mia her mother is dating her Alderbra teacher. She also has a secret admire. There is another bigger problem her dad is king and he is jeleuse of her mom. I find that this book is outstanding book if you are at the stage of a teenager or soon going to be a teenager this book is REALLY GOOD book.

I would personatly give this book a 5+, because of some of the features are beging really really fun because of the way they talk about other teens. The two bff's are interesting they talk about other people in a good and bad way in there backs. If you are under 12 years old you would have trouble understanding the true meaings of this book.

Mia is the main character she is a little girl (14 years old teen) She isa really stressed girl this is one of the features you really feel her amotions just by reading this book.

Do you think she will servive the teen life ?

Freak The Mighty

When miss was presenting the book to the class, I was like ''no big deal it's a book like the other,'' but when I heard that someone in our classroom and said he ''liked'' it, I thought to myself it must be a very good book. When I started to read the book, it was so-so but a little while further in the story was way better! The only thing that was sad was the end, but I won't spoil it for you. I have only one thing to tell you, you must read the book!! Don't miss your chance!!

Matilda

One feature is the pictures.Roald Dahl, the author decided to include ilustrations. The point of view is the author which is the narrator. The text Matilda happens in my oppinioin in the present. The dialogue seemed real and was really descriptive.

The main chararcter is Matilda. She is 5 and a half years. Before entering school she already knew how to read, write and her multiplication tables up to 13.

The theme of the book is like a fairy tale. I think it tries to teach children to listen and respect people.

What do you think about the theme? :)

Double Fudge

My blog entry
The book I choosed is called Double fudge when I first saw it I thought it would be boring but I did not have any other books to choose so I chose this book. Fudge is suddenly obsessed by money when i say obsessed it's at the point he called himself mr. money even at school you should read his homework. When i started the book right away I found it funny, because of fudge the funnniest charater I think. One quotation that really liked was " Does brocoli change pee color " of course fudge said that. Let me talk about the author, Judy blume , judy is also a young adult writer like for Miss Beatty. If you want to know how Peter survives to fudge.

The Dead End By Mimi Mcoy

Suspenseful is what I call it! The story of a 12 year old named Casey that moves in a haunted house (but she doesn't know the haunted part yet!). I thought this book was written by a genius. In the beginning it seemed boring, just a classic about a girl moving and being all sad because she can't see her best friend. But when she moves in the house and all these things happen: ghost diary, weird boy, moving objects, electricity outburst, ect. the book became very interesting. What I preferred in this book was that everything linked with everything.

Before ending this blog post I will write a bout Millie. She is a very special character. She died when she was playing hide-and-seek. She passed away in 1939 on August 22nd. Casey (the main character) finds her diary in the old houses' attic. Millie is so interesting, when I read her diary I feel like I read her mind.

Matilda :)

This is the second Roald Dahl book that I read. What I like is his metaphors and introduction, where he talks to us and enters us into his book.

Most of his children books are fiction and teach children things about how people can act or think sometimes, like in Matilda and the previous book I read. This book has special was of telling messages, that aren't only of working well in school, but to never discourage and doing actions for things you would like to change (standing up).
The book "Matilda" talks about an absolutly brillant little girl of 6 years old that has never really got loved by her parents, but continued being brillant, without her parents paying any attention to her talent.

Double fudge

The book double fudge is about two brothers who are very differnt. Fudge is 5 and has a new pation for money, but attends to be rude and greedy with it.

My favourite character is Fudge, because in a way he riminds me of myself EXCEPT i did not have a problem with money, because when i was 5 i thaught 1.00$ was a million dollars!

What do you think Fudge should do to solve his problem with money?

Robots

we are lazy and do not want to work. so we created robots to help us in different ways. from saving live to playing. some robots are built to do dangerous jobs humain can't do. like "testing bombs" or "fire fighting" robots.

Cetain robots are used in war like "war planes" or "spy planes" some are little as a finger. some extradinory robots are gadgets humain weir like the "hal-5". it makes you have super humain powers like in "g.i joe" some can makes us control other robots with our minds!!! but still humains have the need to built so somethings can surprise you.

Islands

Island, my april reading projet.

There are many features in my book:
-Dates:"Chapter 4: Tuesday july 11th, o7:30 hours"
-Pages:28....text
-dedication to: for Wayne Turner "without your help, I would be lost at sea..."
-Prologue:"For a heart stopping moment, the bow of the Pheonix pointed..."
-About the Author:"Gordon kormon..."
-Website:Visit www.scholastics.com/titles/island
-Summary:" Kids, 1 shipwreak, 1 desert Island"

Opinions:I think the book/story was good but not my favourit. The text seemed very realistic because of the words they used about the boat ex.the bow of the Pheonix.I like the idea of the title because it sets the book suspicous.

Characters:

-Luke:he is normal and always has great ideas, just like gordon korman.
-J.J:rich,snoby kid wnho thinks he can do everything, but has a heart sometimes.
-Will:Brother of lyssa who fights alot with her,but a great personality.
-Lyssa:Sister of will, abit snoby, dosen't get along with will,But i think her character dosen't get devloped alot in the book.
-Charla:Captain's "shou shou",has great ideas, and is very smart, dose well in many things.
-Ian:Quiet.Smart and not a trouble maker,Knows about many things.
-Captain:Likes to talk alot but dosen't like when others talk alot.
-Radford:snoby and mean, has in common with the character Mr.Sir in the book Holes.

Connections:

Self:I have a connection with charla...Always there to help and has great ideas.

Text to others:I think that radford has a connection with Mr.Sir in the book holes htey are both snoby and want to scare the kids and think there so strong. It also reminds me of one of my stories, the characters : J.J. was sneaky and mean just like my story "The third floor bedroom"The girl is sneaky and mean with her uncle.

World:It reminds us of the titanic and not everybody is perfect in the world we all have faults and we all do lie and do bad things that we regret.

Meaning:I think that the meaning is, when your in trouble somewhere lost with friends or people you don't know and don't get along with,Its time to work togeather to do things right.

Author:Gordon Korman is an author for over 35 books. He lives on long islands with his wife and son.For this series of books,he had to do alot of reachers, since its based on real people and real life.

Author:Gordon Korman

LOSER

The book LOSER is about how some people feel being special. Donald Zinkoff is a person like that, he is special. All trough is grades of elementry and middle school Donald Zinkoff gets laughed at because of his specialness. Because of these bad moment Donald Zinkoff risk his life to become a hero, or just because he dosen't want to get laughed at... What will happen to Him?

The Search for the Lost Cave

This April Book was heavy with suspense. It wasn't the kind of suspense that was scary, it was an enjoyable suspence. In every chapter something happended that would be funny or would completely change the suspense ex: Because they didn't find the cave.

The whole family came back from vacation, after they had to leave because they had to find a cave in Montana. There was a Rodeo Festival in Montana , they met a woman who had a great-grandfather who wrote a dairy about the cave. With the help of the book they found the cave.

When the family went to the Rodeo Festival it reminded me when I was at my soccer tournament. When our game was finished we stayed to watch the next game. I and my friend went to buy ourself a hot-dog. Second Connection: At the end when everyone got their cookies it reminded me; Last summer when I played soccer everyone got a Mr.Freeze because everyone had put effort like the book everyone got a cookie because everyone had put an effort for searching the cave.

Rudy Miller was here. Unfortunately

I Want To Go Home! by Gordon Korman is a really funny book! Its about a sarcastic boy of age 12 (Rudy Miller) who really HATES camp. But his parents are forcing him to go to Camp Algonkian (Alcatraz as Rudy calls it). So Rudy and his friend Mike Webster try to escape.

I truly loved this book because Rudy is very sarcastic, just like me. The author Gordon Korman constantly makes jokes about: the camp, the camp director Mr. Warden, and especially his camp counseller; Chip.
I also really liked the ending, but, I won't tell you that. Rudy Miller is really the most sarcastic and bizarre character I ever read about. He's really good at sports, but he doesn't want to play sports. Bizarre right?
I think that the funniest scene is when Rudy becomes the camp director. I give this book 5 stars! To find out about how Rudy became the camp director, read I Want To Go Home!

wringer

The class started reading a book call Wringer. Wringer means:

person shooting pigeons, if they re not dead they wring the neck of the pigeon.

My opinion of the book: I find that cruel. They kill 100,000 pigeons.

Holes

6B is reading a new class novel! It is called Holes and is written by Louis Bachar. Everybody likes it and we might watch the movie based on the book, once we are done. It seems cool and the chapters are short so we can have more time to read it. We are also reading a novel called Wringer by Jerry Spinelli in guided reading. So that's it for this week.

SKI or SNOWBOARD

On February the 5Th the grade 6 classes went to the Relais.
It was very fun. Most people chose to do skiing but some people did snow board as I did. One of my friends fell and was bleeding from the nose; that was the only part that wasn't fun=(. it was the best part of the year. I hope I go back to the Relais one day=).

Tuck Everlasting

We have finished reading the novel Tuck Everlasting. We saw that it had connections to Twilight, and to the real world of students who, as they grow older, make more and more choices in their lives. We noticed that Natalie Babbit used alot of description and metaphors in her writing. The weather and a toad were symbols that related to Winnie Foster. Winnie chose not to drink the Spring Water that would have given her eternal life with Jesse. Did she do the right thing?

Our air unit is ending; our robotics unit is coming soon. Say how many of you know famous robots? well if you don't know check Raz-kids and read ROBOTS; it's fun! Don't forget to read the robot book near the smart board.

We are still collecting items for the media sale.

A few people actually did chores for poor Haiti this morning; I ovreheard my mom talking to my sister that kids lost their parents and have no food back in Haiti. C'mon people help people in need!
